Augusto loves walking with people at the intersection of faith, mental health, and everyday life. As both a psychologist and theologian, he is passionate about helping people experience God’s presence not only in spiritual questions, but also, life transitions, and personal growth. He believes the church should be a place where people can be honest about their pain, supported in their healing, and encouraged in their walk with Jesus. His wife often says he can be a bit of a “philosopher nerd,” which is probably true; he loves deep conversations about God, human nature, meaning, suffering, and hope. And, like any good philosopher, he also has his occasional existential crises, just like any other human being.
Augusto was born in Brasil (yes, Brasil with an “s”) and grew up in a small beach town in a poor but very loving fishermen family. His upbringing shaped in him a deep appreciation for family, simplicity, community, and resilience.Over the years, his journey has brought together psychology, theology, teaching, and pastoral care. He has worked as a psychologist and professor, and currently teaches psychology at Kettering College. Augusto is married to Alix, who continues to be one of the greatest blessings in his life.
Augusto is an extrovert, so if you invite him to play almost any sport, there is a good chance he will say yes. He especially loves volleyball, particularly beach volleyball, because having his feet in the sand reminds him of his hometown in Brasil. He also enjoys good conversations, learning, teaching, spending time with friends, and finding ways to connect faith, psychology, and real life. A perfect day for Augusto would probably include sunshine, beach, meaningful conversation, laughter with friends, and chocolate (because everything's better with chocolate).
